Job Title: Behavioral Health Manager

Department: Health & Human Services (HHS)

Reports To: HHS Assistant Director

Location: Health & Human Services Building

Level/Status: Exempt(E-16)/Full-Time

SUMMARY

The Behavioral Health Program serves individuals and families in distress from emotional, mental, substance misuse, or psychological disorders. The Behavioral Health Manager oversees the day-to-day activities of the behavioral health program and staff and ensures all operations are in compliance with clinical guidelines, meeting national accreditation standards and the needs of the Tribal community.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or PhD in Psychology and five (5) years of experience
  • LMSW, LPC, or LP in the State of Michigan License with a clinical certification
  • Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) from Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals
  • Experience in planning, development and the administration of related programs
  • One year of experience in a supervisory position
  • Able to demonstrate personal knowledge of and experience with Native American populations and historical trauma


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides leadership and supervision of the Behavioral Health Services and staff
  • Provides patients with assessments and referrals, client advocacy and individual counseling
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation in electronic medical records and protects patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42CFR, Part 2
  • Assures that Behavioral Health Services are provided in accordance with all applicable requirements and to appropriate standards of professional ethics
  • Assures that clinical supervision and case conferencing are available for professional staff
  • Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for Behavioral Health Services and develops budgets and policies and procedures to support the programs
  • Monitors compliance with policy and accreditation agencies, and granting sources; when problems arise, takes steps to assure that corrections are made to bring activities into compliance
  • Communicates effectively to department leadership; reports problems and intervenes early to reduce individual and program risk and harm
  • Completes monthly reports and statistical data
  • Actively supports holistic and integrated care, assures that behavioral health services are coordinated with clinic or other medical care
  • Oversees and assists to complete behavioral health services grant applications, awards and progress
  • Attends meetings, networks with internal and external agencies to further program goals
  • Keeps pace with developments in their field and enhances their own professional skills by networking, attending meetings and seminars, reading professional journals, etc.

  • Experience working with Native American populations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written
  • Manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various reports and documents, including financial records and legal information
  • Ability to think critically and strategically and function both independently and as part of a team
  • Must have excellent leadership and management skills
  • Exercise initiative, good judgment, courtesy, and discretion in all interactions
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, self-starter, organizational, and time management skills
  • Must have good public relations skills
  • Must be efficient in operating Microsoft Office software and have general computer knowledge and skills
  • Ability to correspond with individuals throughout all levels of government and intergovernmental organizations
  • Able to create and maintain effective team working relationships
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be insurable
  • May require non-traditional hours including working evenings, weekends and holidays as required to meet program needs and deadlines
  • Option for hybrid work schedule as business allows
  • Ability and willingness to travel for program requirements, meetings and continuing education
